What American accent do you have? Quiz Created on GoToQuiz |
Quizzes are so much fun. I think it's funny that there's as much Philadelphia in my accent as there is The South. You know, considering I've never lived anywhere but The South.

That was not a very discerning quiz. It told me my accent was 100% Philadelphia, and I've never even visited the place. Lived in the South my entire life.
My Mom was from the Midwest (Montana and Illinois), and I believe a lot of your accent is learned from your parents, who may or may not reflect the local accent. Certainly neither your mom nor I sound like New Orleans.
Fascinating...The West has won at 88%! This was with no Philadelphia (0%) or The Northwest (0%) and a whole heaping helping of The Midland (75%) and North Central (73%). Let's see...I have spent the majority of my life on the US-Mexico Border and lived all of my life in Texas...yah this makes sense....
"Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta."
The West - 88%
The Midland - 75%
North Central - 73%
Boston - 50%
The South - 38%
The Inland North - 15%
Philadelphia - 0%
The Northeast - 0%
I came out pretty much Philadephia with the south coming in next then West. Mongrel? But mongrels are smart! My test score for High School was "You paid attention during 100% of high school"! So if you want to know what you got wrong, just ask! Maybe you just answered the age question wrong!;-) Everyone knows that the schools have been going to Hell in a handbasket since the 50's so they just wrote it into the test!

Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you're not from Philadelphia, then you're from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you've ever journeyed to some far off place where people don't know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn't have a clue what accent it was they heard.
This is sooo funny, I'm German, so I don't have a Philly accent, I have a German accent. Of course it sounds weird when I open my mouth to speak English.
Well, Mom is a "Cheesesteaker" too! Tia Tuti, anything you ladies want to tell us?

We all watch so much tv, pretty soon they won't judge accent by
Christa's scores are TOOOO funny! Does Volker know that you're really from Philadelphia? :-) So, are Tony and I the only "Midland"-ers among us? In theatre classes, we called this "American standard stage." I actually worked to get a neutral accent after we left New Orleans.
But I'll swan, y'all might could've answered the questions rightly and been discovered for the southerners alla y'all are.
Hmm, I thought I was able to successfully post comments from my phone? I guess not.
What I started to say was:
We all watch so much tv, pretty soon they won't judge accent by region, but by guessing our favorite TV show or cable network.
I also apparently have a "Midland" accent. I guess all that work I put into dropping my southern accent actually paid off. (It was only because I had moved to Wisconsin and I was so sick of everybody and their grandma asking me where I was from.)
